 I offer both full day and half day wade spin fishing (If you prefer to fly fish you will be required to bring your own gear) fishing guide trips for Smallmouth Bass on the middle Allegheny River from Tidioute to East Brady for 1 or 2 clients. We will be wading in water that is swift up to waist deep. When water temperatures are below 70 degrees waders and a PFD will be worn by everyone on the trip no exceptions over 70 degrees it's the clients decision. These trips are graded in difficulty Low, Moderate, and High. We will be walking in a river with rocks and they are slippery depending on the difficulty this is a tough task. Every person should be able to comfortably walk at least 4 miles on dry land most river trips are 1 to 2 miles. You must be able to swim. I provide all the fishing gear except footwear and or waders for this adventure. We will be fishing with artificial lures from 412 Baits, Scared Fishless Baits, Rapala, Gear from Fishing Online and GLoomis rods, Fenwick rods, St Croix rods, Shimano Reels, Pflueger Reels with Gamma line.

The Allegheny offers 120 miles of free-flowing river running through Allegheny National Forest and is Western Pennsylvania's premier destination  for river smallmouth bass fishing. 
If you like wading rivers, this one makes it a challenge to find and catch these big western PA smallmouth. With plenty of spots to fish along this stretch you'll be able to find out where these fish like to hide during the different seasons of the year. This river is surprisingly wader-friendly and you'll enjoy fishing the valley that this river flows through in which you can find smallmouth in most areas.  It also offers plenty of bank fishing opportunities. 

 This location is anywhere from 1.5 hour to 2 hours north of the City of Pittsburgh. Although we'll be focusing on techniques for fishing for smallmouth, there's always a chance to catch the many other species,like carp, largemouth bass, catfish, musky, pike, and walleye. If you are looking for adventure, want to view wildlife, and learn the best techniques for wading and fishing rivers, this trip is for you.

I can accommodate one or two guest anglers. The rate is the same, no extra charge for

the second angler.
 

Half Day $300

(4hrs Allegheny River for up to two anglers)


Full Day $500
(8hrs Allegheny River for up to two anglers)

  • We will fish in moderate / intermittent rain. We will NOT fish in a thunderstorm

  • We will NOT fish in high water


My guide season is from May thru September (Weather Permitting)

You will be required to sign a waiver form before the wade trip

snacks and drinks for a day on the water

(I do supply bottled water and jerky & crackers)

  • A desire to learn how to wade fish in rivers. (these trips are not a trophy hunt)    

  • Patience and Understanding when the bite goes cold

 
I highly recommend bringing the following items 
to make your day more comfortable:    

  • Hat - wide brims are best, but at least a ball hat that will keep the sun out of your eyes.

  • polarized sunglasses

  • sun shirt (PLEASE NO BRIGHT COLORS)

  • sunscreen

  • rain gear

The Allegheny River (/ˌæləˈɡeɪni/ AL-ə-GAE-nee) is a 325-mile (523 km) long headwater stream of the Ohio River in western Pennsylvania and New York, United States. The Allegheny River runs from its headwaters just below the middle of Pennsylvania's northern border northwesterly into New York then in a zigzag southwesterly across the border and through Western Pennsylvania to join the Monongahela River at the Forks of the Ohio on the "Point" of Point State Park in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Allegheny River is, by volume, the main headstream of both the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. Historically, the Allegheny was considered to be the upper Ohio River by both Native Americans and European settlers.

The shallow river has been made navigable upstream from Pittsburgh to East Brady by a series of locks and dams constructed in the early 20th century. A 24-mile long portion of the upper river in Warren and McKean counties of Pennsylvania and Cattaraugus County in New York is the Allegheny Reservoir also known as Lake Kinzua, created by the erection of the Kinzua Dam in 1965 for flood control.

The name of the river comes from one of a number of Delaware/Unami phrases which are homophones of the English name, with varying translations.
