I offer both full day and half day wade spin fishing (If you prefer to fly fish you will be required to bring your own gear)  Guide trips for Smallmouth Bass and Trout (in season) on the bottom Youghiogheny river from Connellsville to McKeesport for 1 or 2 clients. We will be wading in water that is swift up to waist deep. When water temperatures are below 70 degrees waders and a PFD will be worn by everyone on the trip no exceptions over 70 degrees it's the clients decision. These trips are graded in difficulty Low, Moderate, and High. We will be walking in a river with rocks and they are slippery depending on the difficulty this is a tough task. Every person should be able to comfortably walk at least 4 miles on dry land most river trips are 1 to 2 miles. You must be able to swim. We will be fishing with artificial lures from 412 Baits, Scared Fishless BaitsRapala, Gear from Fishing Online and GLoomis rods, Fenwick rods, St Croix rods, Shimano Reels, Pflueger Reels with Gamma line.

Youghiogheny River Map

The Youghiogheny River is Southwestern Pennsylvania's top river smallmouth destination. The fishing can be fantastic on this medium sized river, with plenty of wade fishing opportunities available. The Yough is pretty much devoid of plant life, but the rocky environment allows for smallmouth to thrive in this river. These trips will have you fishing in small coal mining town of years past or scenic Western PA hillside valleys. As we fish for smallmouth we'll have the opportunity to catch other species fish, like muskie, trout, and walleye. The river is unique as it flows from south to north thru the Laurel Highlands with tons of history happening along its banks. The river has many stretches along the way, like the whitewater rapid section, the slower moving middle section, and finally, the slow moving mouth section. We will be fishing the middle section during low flow. You can easily walk across the river moving from spot to spot looking for smallies. If you like to wade streams and have never tried river wade fishing, this is a great river to learn on.

Youghiogheny River 2008 river of the year

The Youghiogheny rises in northern West Virginia, in Preston County southeast of the town of Kingwood and near Backbone Mountain. The headwaters are approximately 10 mi (16 km) north of the headwaters of the North Branch of the Potomac River. It flows NNE into Garrett County, Maryland, flowing north past Oakland and roughly parallel to the West Virginia border, separated by approximately 3 mi (5 km). This river enters southwestern Pennsylvania on the border between Fayette and Somerset counties. It flows northwest through a gap in Chestnut Ridge and then past Connellsville. It joins the Monongahela River from the southeast at McKeesport, southeast of Pittsburgh.
