I offer both full day and half day wade spin fishing (If you prefer to fly fish you will be required to bring your own gear)  Guide trips for Stocked Trout on the bottom Youghiogheny river from Connellsville to McKeesport for 1 or 2 clients. We will be wading in water that is swift up to waist deep. When water temperatures are below 70 degrees waders and a PFD will be worn by everyone on the trip no exceptions over 70 degrees it's the clients decision. These trips are graded in difficulty Low, Moderate, and High. We will be walking in a river with rocks and they are slippery depending on the difficulty this is a tough task. Every person should be able to comfortably walk at least 4 miles on dry land most river trips are 1 to 2 miles. You must be able to swim or you will be required to wear a PFD. We will be fishing with artificial lures from 412 Baits, Scared Fishless BaitsRapala, Gear from Fishing Online and GLoomis rods, Fenwick rods, St Croix rods, Shimano Reels, Pflueger Reels with Gamma line.

The Yough for trout fishing. From the first week or so of March until the end of April local clubs begin to stock trout up and down the river, and these fish can be caught during closed season. These clubs stock nice size fish in the 10-15 inch range with bigger fish being stocked weekly in the 20-inch range (Rainbow and Brown Trout). During this time the Yough can be running high from spring run-off and heavy rain, and the river provide many areas for the trout to set up and feed.

During mid-March fish set up in the pools and holes of the Yough. The faster water provides the oxygen that the trout need as the water warms in May. There are many hatches during this time of year on the river. There are also plenty of bait fish in the water where these hungry trout live and feed until May. As always on this trip we have the chance to catch muskie, smallmouth and walleye. So, if you want to enjoy a mid sized river with plenty of stocked trout to catch and scenic areas, this trip is for you.

Yough river of the Year 2008

The Youghiogheny rises in northern West Virginia, in Preston County southeast of the town of Kingwood and near Backbone Mountain. The headwaters are approximately 10 mi (16 km) north of the headwaters of the North Branch of the Potomac River. It flows NNE into Garrett County, Maryland, flowing north past Oakland and roughly parallel to the West Virginia border, separated by approximately 3 mi (5 km). This river enters southwestern Pennsylvania on the border between Fayette and Somerset counties. It flows northwest through a gap in Chestnut Ridge and then past Connellsville. It joins the Monongahela River from the southeast at McKeesport, southeast of Pittsburgh.
